Brunei Darussalam government scholarships for overseas students 2011

The Government of Brunei Darussalam's decision this year to offer annual scholarships under a special scholarship award scheme, started in 2011/2012 academic session.

The purpose of granting scholarships is to provide convenience for students, with the opportunity to study at Universiti Brunei Darussalam [UBD], Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali [UNISSA] and Institut Teknologi Brunei [ITB]. Academic year for UBD, UNISSA and ITB starts in July / August 2011.

Requirements

Applicants must be citizens of ASEAN, OIC, Commonwealth Member Countries and others and should be age 18-25 at the commencement of academic session which they are applying for admission. However, some cases, the requirements of the age limit can be waived for candidates applying for Master's and PhD programs.

Awards are NOT eligible for the Residents of Brunei and the foreigners who live permanently in Brunei Darussalam for more than three months.


Mastery Scholarship

Scholarship awards are usually maintained in accordance with the duration of the particular four-year program for First Honours degree or 1-2 years for a Master's degree or three years for Doctoral programs in UBD, UNISSA and ITB, two and a half years for HND at ITB on a full time basis.
Scholarship awards are subject to the scholar maintaining satisfactory conduct and satisfactory progress in studies scholars (this requires a degree to maintain an active registration status by passing the semester exam and earn a specified minimum credit units).

Award Requirements

Scholarships include:

* Tuition.
* Air-tickets by economy class of scholars will be given only at the following events:
o country of origin scholars to Brunei Darussalam at the commencement of the program;
o of Brunei Darussalam to the country of origin after completing their undergraduate program.
* Medical and dental care free of charge at each hospital the Government is subject to the conditions stipulated by the Ministry of Health. But there will be administrative costs for every consultation (currently at B $ 3.00), go to class A1, A2 and A3 and ward cost for a specific dental treatment as stated in the Dental a schedule issued by the Ministry of Health.
* Other allowances payable will include:
o Monthly personal allowance of B $ 500.00.
o Annual Book Allowance B $ 600.00.
o Baggage Allowance maximum of B $ 250.00 to $ 500.00 for ASEAN and non-ASEAN region.

Scholars are required to sign an agreement with the Government of Brunei Darussalam to complete the course, failing which he / she will be liable to refund to the Government of Brunei Darussalam any expenditure that has been extended to him / her.

The scholarships are offered for the Bachelor, Posgraduate (Masters and PhD)

Completed application form, together with certified copies of relevant certificates and documents, should be returned to the Technical Assistance Department no later than December 15, 2010.

The body granting the right to reject any applicant. No award will be made if there is no merit enough applicants. Decisions about the selection of each candidate is final. Equiries or disputes about the decisions that will not be entertained.
